We came to interiors through fashion. A personal look at how our love of it, and the eye it trained, shapes the rooms we style.
Before we styled homes, we loved fashion. It is where our eye was trained, where we first learned colour, texture and shape, and it still runs through everything we do. The way we dress and the way we live have never felt far apart to us.
Colour is the clearest thread. A shade that moves through the collections finds its way into interiors a season later. The warm browns and soft camels we reach for now spent time on the runway first, and burgundy, oxblood and deep chocolate followed the same path. When we build a palette for a home, we are often reading a mood that fashion set in motion.
Texture is where our love of it shows most. Boucle came to furniture from the coat and the jacket, and now it is on every second sofa we fall for. Tailoring taught us the beauty of a clean line and a considered edge. The softness of cashmere and the structure of good wool shape how we think about a cushion, a throw, the drape of a curtain. Fashion trained our hands to feel before the mind catches up, and that instinct carries straight into a room.
We see it in shape too. The curved, rounded forms in furniture we love echo the softer silhouettes that came through fashion first. A sculptural chair owes something to the same thinking behind a well-cut dress, the belief that a shape can be beautiful and useful at once.
What we carry from fashion, in the end, is a way of seeing. The houses we admire build a collection with a point of view, a sense of proportion and a respect for detail, and a considered room does the same. We choose every piece with the care we would give a wardrobe we love.
There is a difference between what is on trend and what is timeless, and we have always leaned to the timeless. A trend can be beautiful, and we are happy to be moved by one. What we do is take what we need from it and let it settle into something lasting, so a room feels right this year and in 10 years. We keep the mood, keep what endures, and let the rest go.
